Mohonganj Express Power Car Derails Near Gazipur, Dhaka-Mymensingh Rail Link Halted
A power car bogie of the Mymensingh-bound Mohonganj Express train derailed near the Joydebpur Railway Junction area in Gazipur Metropolitan today (Friday, October 31st) around 2:15 PM. The incident resulted in the suspension of train traffic on the crucial Dhaka-Mymensingh route for approximately one hour.
Details of the Incident
Md. Kaiyum Ali, Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Joydebpur Railway Junction Police Outpost, reported that the Mohonganj Express was carrying passengers from Dhaka to Mymensingh.
SI Kaiyum Ali stated: “As the train approached the Joydebpur Railway Junction Station in Gazipur, the left wheel of the train’s power car bogie derailed. This obstructed the train’s movement and temporarily halted train services in both directions.”
Mahmudul Hasan, Station Master of Joydebpur Junction, confirmed the timeline:
“Around 2:10 PM today, the Mohonganj-bound train, which had left Dhaka for Mymensingh, derailed shortly after crossing Joydebpur. Train movement was stopped for about an hour before traffic resumed on an alternative route. No passengers were injured in the derailment.”
Restoration of Services
The Station Master further explained that a relief train was dispatched from Dhaka to re-rail the power car bogie. The Mohonganj Express was able to depart from Joydebpur Station around 5:30 PM. Train services on the route were reported to be fully normal about two hours later.
